About

I am a graduate of the University of Amsterdam where I obtained degrees in History (M.A., 2006), International Relations (M.Sc., 2008) and International Public Law (LL.M., 2010). During my studies I became rather dedicated to, and passionate about the field of post-conflict reconstruction and development, especially transitional/post-conflict justice issues, in fragile states (mainly sub-Sahara Africa). During my master in law I focused on international criminal/tribunal law and international human rights law in the broader context of post-conflict reconstruction and development.

From September 2008 until April 2009 I worked as a temporary researcher at the University of Amsterdam on a joint project of the Dutch Ministries of Foreign Relations and Defense, and the Netherlands Institute of International Relations 'Clingendael', on the future of U.S. and Dutch security politics.

From April 2009 until November 2009 I interned and subsequently worked as a temporary staff member at the Conflict Research Unit of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations 'Clingendael' in The Hague. Here, I mainly conducted research on transitional justice issues. Furthermore I researched security and stabilization issues of post-conflict reconstruction, such as SSR and DDR.

Starting in March 2011 I work at Young in Prison (www.younginprison.nl) as a Country Coordinator for the Young in Prison projects in Malawi.

Starting in the summer of 2011 I am involved in the establishment of the Peace & Justice Hub in the Hague, the Netherlands.

The research that I conducted for my LL.M. thesis was used by professor Van der Wilt for a publication in the Oxford Journal of International Criminal Justice which was published in November 2011: Wilt, H. van der, "Universal Jurisdiction under Attack: an assessment of African misgivings towards international criminal justice as administered by western states", in: Oxford Journal of International Criminal Justice 9 (2011) 1043-1066. See: http://jicj.oxfordjournals.org/content/9/5/1043.abstract

I am currently aiming for a PhD position to continue my research on transitional justice. It is my ambition to pursue an academic or policy-oriented career on the crossroads of international relations and law.
